Recycle your old bras for charity

Ever wondered what to do with the bras you have in the bottom of your draw that you have grown out of or just do not wear anymore.  You can donate your bras to the CancerCare Bra Amnesty or the What You Take Off, Helps Us Take Off Bra Appeal

All ladies have bras that don't fit, that are uncomfortable or that are just unloved! It has been reported that most women have at least 4 bras that they never wear. Many of these bras are thrown away with the household waste, destined for landfill but now we can recycle them to raise money. Not only will you be helping these charities and the environment but also women in other parts of the world who do not have easy access to such items.

Second-hand bras are in considerable demand, particularly in West Africa, where traders can buy and sell quality garments at affordable prices.  Bras are worth more to the charity than our mixed clothing grade, but because they are so small and lightweight.

What You Take Off, Helps Us Take Off

The  BAG IT UP Bra Campaign for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was launched in Autumn 2006, to find 200,000 unwanted bras from around Yorkshire.  200,000 bras would guarantee a minimum sum of £10,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance!

The quirky campaign which was first launched with the Yorkshire Federations of Women's Institutes, has attracted supporters from all over Yorkshire, and of all age groups, including the Lions International District Club 105c, Sainsbury’s, local businesses, schools, colleges, community groups, social clubs ... the list goes on.

What happens to the bras?
All bras are repacked at the Bag It Up warehouse and then they are sent to one of the grading partners, to be pressed into bales ready for shipment to West Africa. The importer sells his purchases to market traders and shop owners, where local women can buy quality used bras at affordable prices. Funds raised from the sale of your recycled bras help your chosen charity!

NB: Bag It Up only sell to recognised traders in the UK and abroad, where the demand for quality clothing is high, and there is a used clothing market freely available to all.

Thank you to everyone who has sent parcels of bras ... please keep them coming!
